  • Use

    The area is to be used for a landscape buffer zone around Ilulissat Icefiord. Piste equipment may be used following permission. The following activities area permitted and no limitations apply: sealing, whaling and fishing as well as sailing and tenting.

  • Current conditions

    Areas located within two kilometres of the protection zone limit, be they land, ice or sea. This limit is to reflect what is reasonably estimated to be within visible proximity of the protected area. The area covers a total of 645 km².

  • Building provisions

    The area is to remain clear of buildings and facilities. However, to a limited extent, a few hunting and emergency huts may be established as long as their number does not change the area’s overall use.

    No special provisions

  • Traffic service and utilities

    No traffic or power supply plants can be established. Access to the subarea is thorough the landscape buffer zone. Snowmobile traffic to the subarea can only take place in a dedicated snowmobile corridor, which has been zoned in a municipal bylaw for motorised traffic in the open country. It is possible to mark hiking paths through the areas.
